Wine Spectator 94pts
Highly Recomended. The aroma recalls a warm summer day in the vineyard, with scents of wild berry, dried flowers and sage. The flavors are deep and distinctive, showing notes of smoky pepper, mineral and grilled anise, and the tannins gain power on the finish. Zinfandel, Carignane, Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouschet, Valdiguié and Cinsault. Best from 2016 through 2022.

The 2012 Lorenzo's Heritage comes from an alluvial bench of red gravelly soils, and the non-irrigated vines are at least 100-years-old. Another blend of Zinfandel, Carignan, Petite Sirah and Alicante Bouchet, it was aged in 30% new French oak, it achieved 15.4% natural alcohol, and 600 cases were produced. Full-bodied with copious notes of charcuterie, roasted meat, Provencal herbs, lavender and spice box, this full, thick, juicy red exploits in a brilliant manner these old field blends of mixed blacks. Drink it over the next 5-6 years.
From the winemaker:
Dry Creek Valley is about as close to God’s land when it comes to Zinfandel as there is. Within the valley itself, there is a particular area where vinous angels sing the loudest and most beautifully. This of course, is the Dry Creek bench. Upon this bench of red, cobbly, porous soil, grow the 100 year old, dry-farmed, vines of Lorenzo’s Vineyard. It was Lorenzo, the grandfather of the current generation of the family that planted the oldest vines on the ranch from which the Heirloom Wines springs forth. Thus, the wine is named for him.
