Larmandier-Bernier Terre de Vertus Blanc de Blancs Non Dosé Champagne

Vinous 93pts:

The 2010 Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Terre de Vertus 1er Cru emerges from the Barillers and Faucherets lieux-dits, both in Vertus. Powerful and tightly wound, the 2010 is a classically austere wine that needs more time in bottle so soften a bit. Still, it is impossible not to admire the wine's energy and creamy, polished feel. Lemon confit, sage, menthol, licorice and dried flowers infuse the virile finish. The Terre de Vertus is especially powerful, an impression that is reinforced by the choice to bottle with no dosage. The 2010 was aged and vinified in a combination of barrique and foudre. Disgorged: January 2016.

From the importer:

The non-dosage vintage bottling of Terre de Vertus is always a vintage-dated bottling and is produced from two top vineyards in the village of Vertus: Les Barillers and Les Faucherets, which are located in the heart of the Vertus vignoble, mid-slope on the rolling hills of the village. The wine undergoes its alcoholic and malolactic fermentations in old oak casks, rather than stainless steel, and is generally aged a minimum of four years in the cellar prior to disgorgement and release. It is universally considered one of the most profound non-dosage bottlings produced in all of Champagne and ages brilliantly.

From two east-facing parcels, Les Barilles and Les Faucherets, situated mid-slope in Vertus with chalk and limestone soils. The vines are farmed biodynamically and the grapes are harvested by hand. The wine is vinified in a combination of stainless steel, large barrels and barrique; sur lie in the winter. Zero dosage. The wine is left on its lees during the winter and aged in the cool cellars, hand disgorged 3-6 months before release.
