From the winemaker:
The 2016 POE rosé is 100% “direct to press”, as opposed to from saignée. We hand harvested the grapes at night, and immediately brought them to the press first thing in the morning. The juice was transferred into a stainless steel tank where it was fermented at 48 degrees for 3 weeks. The cold fermentation preserved the nuance and aromatics. We inhibited malolactic fermentation, and sterile filtered the wine so it would not go through malolactic in bottle.
The wine is a blend of 66% Pinot Noir from the Balestra Vineyard in Salinas. The vineyard is just 18 miles from the ocean, northwest of Saint Lucia Highland. The Pinot Meunier, which accounts for 34% of the blend, is from the Van der Kamp Vineyard on Sonoma Mountain. The vineyard was planted in the early 1950s. The resulting wine reveals wild strawberries, peach, raspberry and citrus.
